Saving statuses from WhatsApp Business (it needs a second permission)

If you use both WhatsApp and WhatsApp Business, there is a specific way this goes wrong: half your statuses show up and half do not, with no obvious pattern.

The reason is that they are two applications with two separate storage areas.

Two apps, two folders

Different package names — com.whatsapp and com.whatsapp.w4b — mean Android treats them as unrelated apps. Granting folder access to one says nothing about the other.

So if you granted the regular WhatsApp folder during setup and later wonder why a client's status is missing, this is almost always why.

The fix

Grant the second folder too. In Status Saver that is the same setup step, pointed at the Business path. After that both sets appear together.

Worth knowing: the permission is per-folder and persists. You do this once per app, not per status.

Why business users hit this more

Statuses are used differently on Business accounts — catalogue updates, offers, delivery photos, proof-of-work shots. People save them for genuine record-keeping rather than sentiment, and a missing one matters more than a missing meme.

The same 24-hour expiry applies. A supplier's price list posted as a status is gone the next day unless someone kept a copy.

What does not change

Everything else works identically. The file is already on your phone once you have viewed the status, nothing is uploaded, and no account is involved. The Business folder is just a second place to look.

If you only use one of the two apps, you can ignore all of this — grant the folder for the app you have and you are done.
