You saved a status but can't find it in your gallery
The file is almost certainly there. Three reasons it isn't showing, and how to make it appear.
You tapped save, the app said it worked, and the photo is nowhere in your gallery. The file is essentially always there — something else is going on.
1. The gallery hasn't re-scanned yet
Android keeps a media index, and gallery apps read the index rather than the disk. A new file appears once the index catches up, which is usually seconds but can take longer after a batch save.
Fix: close and reopen your gallery app. If it still hides, restarting the phone forces a re-scan.
2. You're looking in the wrong album
Saved statuses land in their own folder, not in Camera. Depending on your gallery app they appear under Pictures, Downloads, or an album named after the app — not mixed in with your photos.
Fix: look at the album list rather than the main timeline. Sorting by "recently added" usually surfaces it immediately.
3. The gallery is filtering it out
Some galleries hide folders that contain a .nomedia file, and some group "other" folders out of the
main view by default. Samsung Gallery and a few OEM apps do this.
Fix: open a file manager and navigate to the save folder directly. If the file is there, it is a gallery display setting, not a missing file.
Confirm it exists
The quickest way to settle it: open any file manager, go to the folder the app saved into, and look. Present in the file manager but absent from the gallery is always an indexing or filtering issue — never a failed save.
What is not the cause
It is not the 24-hour expiry. That applies to WhatsApp's own copy in its statuses folder. Once you have saved a file out of that folder, it is an ordinary file on your phone and stays until you delete it. Expiry removes the original, never your copy.
If the save genuinely failed you would have seen an error — most commonly a storage-permission refusal or a full disk, both of which report themselves.
